Prize of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA) goes to Dr. Tizian Wenzel - Institute of Applied Analysis and Numerical Simulation IANS

Dr. Tizian Wenzel has been awarded a first prize in the highly regarded "Leslie Fox Prize for Numerical Analysis" on June 23, 2025.This international prize is awarded every second year by the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA) in recognition of outstanding contributions to the field of numerical analysis. The list of previous awardees includes many prominent names in the field.

Although Dr. Wenzel has since moved to LMU Munich, and was previously at the University of Hamburg, the core work on the analysis of greedy kernel algorithms that earned him this honor was conducted here at the University of Stuttgart until end of 2023. Back then, he was part of the Numerical Mathematics working group of the Institute of Applied Analysis and Numerical Simulation IANS. The work was performed under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Bernard Haasdonk in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Gabriele Santin (Univ. of Venice), to whom sincere thanks are also due.
