Ceremonial Farewell for the Graduates of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics

On February 6, 2026, the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics held its formal graduation ceremony at the University of Stuttgart. In a festive setting, the graduates received their congratulatory letters and celebrated the successful completion of their studies or doctoral degrees together with family members, friends, and faculty staff.

The graduates completed degrees in mathematics and physics across a range of programs, including Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees, teacher education programs, and doctoral studies. The ceremony honored their diverse academic achievements and marked the successful conclusion of many demanding years of study.

The event opened with a ceremonial address by the Dean, Professor Uwe Semmelmann. In his speech, he reflected on the demanding nature of the graduates’ academic journey and acknowledged their perseverance:

“For all of you, an intensive period of study now lies behind you, with final examinations and the completion of your thesis. You worked toward this with great dedication — and now you have made it! Or, as we write at the end of a proof: ‘q.e.d. — quod erat demonstrandum.’”

He also highlighted the important role of student engagement in faculty committees and university governance, emphasizing that such involvement is essential for the academic community and contributes significantly to improving study conditions:

“This commitment is important for all of us. All committees need student representatives. Your opinions matter and must be heard — for example, in the reorganization of examination periods, where you made an important contribution.”

A highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of several awards recognizing outstanding academic achievements. These honors acknowledged excellent degree results as well as exceptional scholarly accomplishments.

Following the formal ceremony in the lecture hall, the celebrations continued in the foyer. With sparkling wine and finger food, graduates enjoyed the opportunity to reconnect, celebrate together, and share the moment with family, friends, and faculty members. Once again, the photo station proved especially popular, offering graduates the chance to put on a traditional gown and capture memorable photos.
The Faculty of Mathematics and Physics warmly congratulates all graduates on their achievements and wishes them every success in their future paths.
