On July 8, 2025, Anna-Sophia Tenkleve (TWS Partners) was a guest speaker in the “Mathe Macht!” lecture series at the Department of Mathematics. With her lecture “Business is a playing field for mathematicians!”, she provided exciting insights into the various areas of application for game theory in companies. She explained the possibilities offered by game theory methods in the areas of purchasing and sales, which are implemented and improved in case studies. Mathematical methods from science are used directly in management consulting.
After a presentation of TWS Partners—the market leader in the use of game theory in management consulting—the students asked questions about starting a career, the job description of a consultant, and contact with clients. In the ensuing discussion, Ms. Tenkleve mentioned the lecture “Game Theory and Economic Behavior” by Prof. Eisermann and Dr. Stoll, which she attended during her studies in the Department of Mathematics and which teaches the basics of game theory in a structured and “playful” way.
