On November 4, 2025, Sandra Hahn and Jonathan Völkle presented their work at Hallesche Krankenversicherung at the Department of Mathematics. Both speakers work in product development. In this division of the company, creative ideas and mathematical analysis are used to develop new private health insurance products. The students and doctoral candidates gained insight into how premiums are calculated based on external data and performance data on health status, age, and insurance benefits, weighted with various risks.
In the subsequent discussion, questions were asked about starting a career in insurance, the requirements for mathematical training, and everyday working life. It was particularly interesting that Ms. Hahn and Mr. Völkle had only made the transition from university to work in recent years and were able to highlight various aspects of their career choices.
