In their lecture entitled “Translating Data into the Power of Knowledge”, Dr. Florian Gnad and Dr. Ingrid Blaschzyk, who herself studied at the department and completed her doctorate, presented their work in the “Biostatistics & Data Science” department at Roche Diagnostics. Using a number of selected use cases, they explained how statistics and artificial intelligence can be used to develop or improve tests for medical diagnoses. The speakers also gave personal insights into their professional careers and everyday working lives. The interdisciplinary collaboration in a team that combines different backgrounds from mathematics, statistics, biology and computer science was particularly exciting.
Following the lecture, Dr. Blaschzyk and Dr. Gnad answered numerous questions from interested students and doctoral candidates on technical aspects of the lecture as well as on applications and daily work at Roche Diagnostics.
