Faculty 8 celebrated the 2022 Summer Festivity on campus on July 22, 2022 with the presentation of the Mathematics Department and Physics Department Lecturer Awards

The first summer festivity in presence after the Corona lockdown took place on July 22, 2022 on the campus Vaihingen. Numerous members, alumni and friends of the faculty followed the invitation of the departments of physics and mathematics and the faculty 8 in hot summer weather.

Prof. Dr. Kathrin Valerius (head of the department Low Energy Universe at KIT Karlsruhe) presented in her lecture "Cosmic Lightweights on the Track: Weighing Neutrinos with KATRIN" the measurement methods on which the research facility is based and the latest results of the facility. She also vividly showed the project phases that preceded the construction of the research facility. In the subsequent interview with Svenja Loy (Student council Mathematics), Prof. Valerius answered questions about her decision to study physics, her projects to date, and her work as a mentor for students and doctoral candidates.

Lecturer awards of the Student Councils Mathematics and Physics

This year again, the lecturer awards of the Mathematics Department and the Physics Department were presented at the summer festivity. The basis for the awarding of the prizes was the lecture survey of the department. David Banov presented the prizes to the lecturers and assistants of the mathematics courses:

The prize for the best basic lecture went to the lecture Analysis 1 by Priv.-Doz. Dr. Peter Lesky and the assistants Dr. Simon Barth and Matthias Bauer.

The prize for the best advanced lecture went to the lecture Algebra 1 by Priv.-Doz. Dr. Frederik Marks.

The prize for the best advanced lecture went to the lecture "Fractal Geometry and Chaos" by Priv.-Doz. Dr. Anda Degeratu.

Kira Fischer from the physics department presented the prizes for the best lectures to the following winners:

The prize for the best lecture in experimental physics went to Prof. Peter Michler for "Experimental Physics V: Molecule and Solid State Physics".

The prize for the best lecture in theoretical physics went to Prof. Hans-Peter Büchler for "Theoretical Physics II: Quantum Mechanics".

And the best elective lecture was the lecture "Quantum Technologies" by Prof. Stefanie Barz.

In hot summer weather, the traditional summer festivity of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics took place in front of the lecture hall building Pfaffenwaldring 53. Our summer party was musically framed by the band "Tender" and of course there were again cool drinks and grilled food.
