SUMMARY:Mathematics & Physics Summer Festivity 2021
DESCRIPTION:This year’s mathematics & physics summer festivity will take place on Friday, July 16, 2021.\nInvited are all members, alumni and friends of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics.\nWebex-Link\nLink to the Lounge\nProgamWelcome The brain and the future of artificial intelligence - lecture by Helmut LindePresentation of the Lecturers' Prizes by the Mathematics and Physics DepartmentsPresentation of the physics awards for graduates of the Master of Science programSmall quiz round - change to the lounge\nThe brain and the future of artificial intelligence [DE]Lecture by Helmut Linde (Merck Group / Data Science)\nWhat will the next stage of Artificial Intelligence look like? What comes after Deep Learning? A key difference between today's algorithms and biological intelligence is that the brain is much better at forming abstract concepts: A child learns a new type of object even if he has seen only a few examples. We recognize a piece of music no matter what instrument it is played on and in what key. And we understand a story regardless of whether we see, hear, or read it. Even the most advanced algorithms, on the other hand, are still far from these capabilities.\nBut there is hope that we can learn tricks from nature: Despite all the complexity of the brain, there is increasing evidence that many seemingly different brain functions are based on a common basic principle. Can we succeed in decoding this "canonical algorithm" and why do we need the methods of mathematics and physics to do so?
