The Faculty of Mathematics and Physics warmly congratulates Dr. Lang on this exceptional achievement!
The University of Stuttgart’s Teaching Prize is highly prestigious and awarded in a competitive environment: many experienced and outstanding lecturers are nominated each year. That Dr. Lang, as a young researcher, was able to prevail in this context highlights his exceptional performance and impressive dedication to teaching.
Dr. Lang is especially being recognized for his lecture course on Relativity Theory, which he taught for the first time and completely redesigned from scratch. Particularly noteworthy is that the subject lies outside his primary research focus – making the depth, clarity, and thoroughness with which he prepared and conveyed this complex material all the more impressive. Despite the high academic demands placed on the students, he succeeded in teaching the challenging content through a clear structure, an understandable lecture style, and well-thought-out supplementary materials. A special highlight is the publicly accessible lecture script he wrote in English, which spans over 500 pages. In the future, Dr. Lang even plans to transform the script into an interactive learning platform.
The exceptionally positive feedback from students strongly reflects the quality of his teaching. In official evaluations and a survey conducted by the Physics Student Council, he received top marks. Back in 2020, Dr. Lang had already received the Student Council’s award for the best elective course in Quantum Field Theory.
Students and guest auditors expressed their enthusiasm:
"This lecture is pure enjoyment and sets standards in terms of quality, depth, and breadth."
"Dr. Lang manages to transmit his enthusiasm for the subject to us listeners."
"His structured and clear teaching sparked awe and great joy in discovering the laws of nature."
"With his excellent combination of innovative teaching, dedicated support, and active research, Dr. Nicolai Lang is a tremendous asset to our university."
