First Year Students

Information on the Beginning of Studies

Welcome to your Physics Studies!

The physicists at the University of Stuttgart apply themselves to both fundamental research as well as application-oriented research in the fields of solid matter state physics, atomic and quantum optics, photonics, quantum technologies, soft matter physics, strongly correlated many-body systems, physical modeling and numerical simulation. The application-oriented branches of research are active in numerous research alliances, both within the university as well as with the neighboring Fraunhofer Institute and industry. There is also a close cooperation with the two Max-Planck Institutes for physics in Stuttgart.

The scientists are involved in numerous regional, national and international cooperation projects, research alliances and special research areas throughout the department’s institutes.

The Physics Student Council offers you practical help and the possibility to network and meet future classmates during the first days of your studies. If you have any question before the start of the lectures please feel free to contact us!

The Physics Student Council offers a What'sApp group for First-Year Students. You are welcome to join!

First Days of the Semester

The Physics Student Council and the Mentoring Program organized some events for you to get to know each other and make your start in your studies easier. These offers are of course free of charge for all first-year students of the B.Sc. Physics and Physics Teaching Program. We are looking forward to your participation!

We start at 6 pm in Enchilada, Eberhardstraße 69-71, 70173 Stuttgart.

Participation from 18 years of age.

You can participate without registration, but we need an overview of the number of participants.

This pub crawl is an offer of the physics student council and is ONLY for physics students.

The Mentoring program wants to show you the two most important tools you will need in your time at the university.
The first one is “Campus”. This platform is intended to register for lectures, exercise classes, and exams. Additionally you can get your study certificate and see your semester fee there.
The second one is “Ilias”. Here you will find all the contents of your lectures like scripts, records or exercise sheets.
We will show you the most important basics of how to use these platforms. This will be online on webex at September 14 2021 from 2 to 3 pm. At the end you will also have time to ask questions about the mentoring program.

Webes Meeting

We invite you to the Introductory Event on Monday, October 18 at 11:30 AM. The digital event will take place via Webex.
The event will cover important details regarding the organization of the physics and physics teaching courses and will give you the opportunity to ask questions.
