Admission Requirements

B.Sc. in Physics

An internationally recognized Bachelor's degree in physics (or equivalent). The Bachelor's degree has to be equivalent to a B.Sc. degree in physics obtained at a German university with an above-average grade.

OR

B.Sc. in related fields

Applicants from related fields can only be considered if they passed sufficient courses in physics with excellent results. Mechanics, electrodynamics and quantum mechanics are mandatory requirements. The admission committee will evaluate the equivalency of your transcript.

English Proficiency Certificate

TOEFL (minimum scores: ibt 80; cbt 213; pbt 550)

IELTS (minimum band score 6.0)

Cambridge Advanced Certificate in English (CAE) or Cambridge Proficiency in English Certificate (CPE)

All applicants have to provide an official English proficiency certificate. Exemptions are only possible for native speakers passing their whole studies in the following countries: UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand and Australia.

If applicable, you can opt for the testing from home options offered i.e. by IELTS or TOEFL during restrictions due to the pandemic.

Higher Education Entrance Qualification

A secondary education degree qualifying you to enter University, i.e. A-Levels, Abitur, High school diploma, Matura, Nationwide Placement Test (Concours) or similar.

APS Certificate

Applicants from ChinaMongolia or Vietnam and India have to provide an original APS certificate which is issued by the German embassy in your home country in order to obtain a study Visa. Please check the homepage of the German embassy for details.

Germany Scholarship (Deutschlandstipendium)
The Germany Scholarship is awarded for academic performance. Besides marks above average, the proof of at least one additional criterion is required.The scholarship amounts to 300 € per month, half of which is financed by a sponsor and the other half by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

Student dormitories ar offered by two different providers on our Campus in Vaihingen close to both the department of Physics and the Max Planck Institutes.

Unfortunately, we can no longer offer a dormitory reservations for our admitted students, however, as soon as you are admitted to our program, we recommend you apply for a dormitory room at

Studierendenwerk

and 

VSSW 

indicating that you would prefer housing on Campus Vaihingen (either Allmandring or Pfaffenhof)
