The Faculty of Mathematics and Physics at the University of Stuttgart is delighted to welcome Professor Cornelia Monzel, who joined us on April 1, 2025. She is based at the 2nd Institute of Physics.
Professor Monzel conducts research in the fields of biophysics and biophotonics. Her work focuses on multiparametric imaging spectroscopy, high-resolution optical microscopy, and the development of biomimetic model systems. Her group develops novel imaging spectroscopy methods and analysis software to characterize individual biomolecules with nanoscale resolution, contributing to a better understanding of signal generation in cells. Additionally, her team designs biomimetic model systems to synthetically replicate cellular signaling processes.
To support the development of her research program, Professor Monzel has secured the "Momentum" grant from the Volkswagen Foundation, which assists newly appointed professors in advancing their scientific and strategic goals.
Professor Monzel’s academic background includes appointments at renowned research institutions. After completing her Diploma in Physics at the University of Bonn and a Master’s degree at the University of Cambridge, she pursued her PhD at the Research Centre Jülich and Université Aix-Marseille II. She continued with postdoctoral research at the University of Heidelberg and the Institut Curie in Paris. Before joining the University of Stuttgart, she held positions as Junior Professor and later Professor at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf.
The Faculty looks forward to working with Professor Monzel and wishes her every success at the University of Stuttgart!
