Lecture Series "Mathe Macht! Mathematik in der Praxis - 03.06.2025 - Departement of Mathematics

The Mathe Macht! lecture series presents areas of responsibility for mathematicians in practice. On 3 June 2025, Dr. Maximilian Wörner was a guest at the Department of Mathematics. With the title “Do you trust your simulation?” he presented the field of activity of the Development Engineer at Bosch Engineering GmbH. “Credible Simulation” uses analysis, numerics and statistics to map real systems in simulations and optimize them. In his presentation, Dr. Wörner explained various time-dependent and statistical metrics that are used to improve the simulation. The importance of mathematics in this area became clear. As a development engineer, Dr. Wörner sees himself as a “ mathematician in the engineering world”, which he also made clear in his presentation.

Of particular interest to the students and doctoral candidates was the fact that Dr. Wörner studied and completed his doctorate at the department and only recently made the transition from studying to working. They therefore took the opportunity to ask questions about career choices, career entry and the requirements for the applicant profile. Questions about Master's theses and doctorates in collaboration with industry partners were also discussed.
