On March 17, 2023, the event "TryScience - Try out the university" took place for the first time again in person. Dr. Friederike Stoll and Prof. Michael Eisermann presented "Combinatorial Game Theory", an interesting field of mathematics. "Combinatorial Game Theory" examines games in which two players draw alternately. These games were solved using the backward induction method, leading to Sprague-Grundy's Theorem: this would allow students to solve the games efficiently. Winning with mathematics!
In the trial lecture, the 15 participants were able to gain insight into what mathematics can mean. Afterwards, what they had learned was applied in exercises, just like in real studies. There was also information about studying mathematics and plenty of time to ask questions.
