The lecture series Math Power! presents areas of responsibility of mathematicians in practice.
On January 16, 2022, Ms. Jacqueline Benzinger, Mr. Jakob Benz and Mr. Bruno Herceg from IT Mercedes-Benz Car Operations gave an exciting insight into the varied working world of a solution architect. In addition to communication, working in a home office and team structure, agile project management was also a topic of the presentation. A fictitious project was used to demonstrate the project structure and software development in concrete terms. This gave the participants a detailed insight into the implementation. Complex modeling involving mathematics was also addressed. It was particularly interesting for the students that the three lecturers only made the step from study to profession in the last few years. Ms. Benzinger and Mr. Benz studied at the University of Stuttgart, while Ms. Benzinger earned her master's degree at the Department of Mathematics. In the discussion that followed, Mr. Stephan Keßler and Mr. Philipp Imhof answered questions about starting a career and the requirements for applicants. This led to interesting conversations with students and doctoral candidates.
