"What is math doing in medicine?" - this question attracted numerous students on May 15, 2023, who listened intently to the entertaining lecture by Ms. Anna Rörich from Fraunhofer MEVIS. In it, she first used situations from everyday medical life to demonstrate the areas in which mathematics plays an important role with image- and data-based methods and supports medical diagnostics and treatment. In particular, Ms. Rörich, who herself received her doctorate from the department in 2021, also presented concrete results of her own research projects on the modeling of finger bones and cruciate ligaments.
The lecture was followed by a lively discussion, which once again highlighted the great interest of those present: questions ranged from details of concrete applications to medical ethics issues and general questions about working in non-university research.
