The Mathe Macht! lecture series presents areas of responsibility for mathematicians in practice. On November 28, 2023, Dr. Alexander Malinowski and Jan Gehrke from the consulting firm d-fine were guests at the Department of Mathematics. After an introduction to the company, the students were able to gain an insight into everyday project work using the example of a value-at-risk model. The focus on analytically demanding topics that require mathematical modeling became clear. The range of industries for which d-fine develops solutions also became apparent - from stress testing in the banking sector to the modeling of high-voltage grids. A lively discussion ensued, which demonstrated the great interest of the students and doctoral candidates. They took the opportunity to ask questions about the team structure, employment models, joining the company and the various career paths.
